At release I was stoked for a new release in the Diablo franchise. Having played tons of Diablo 3 I had high hopes for Diablo 4. Playing to complete various tasks such as finding all the waypoints and idols ahead of the launch of Season 1 was like a fun scavenger hunt. I finished the story, had all the waypoints, and found all the idols of Lilith.
Season 1 started, I found myself having to find all the waypoints again, a minor inconvenience and relatively easy to collect again. The thing that becomes annoying is that the path to leveling is not as it was in Diablo 3 when it comes to seasons. In Diablo 3 you had a real adventure mode with clear objectives, you had rifts to run through which leveled you quickly to max level to begin earning paragon points.
Diablo 4 is just grindy and it stalls out at points, some mobs are just purely overturned for some specs and then the re is the gear factor. It seemed like I was getting no upgrades from 50-60. And even at 60 I was not finding upgrades. OK let’s push a 20 Nightmare dungeon, nope no upgrades to try and make the push to World 4. No upgrades. I can not run any nightmare dungeons past 20 because you must unlock World 4. I did this in the Eternal realm prior to Season 1 but all the preseason nerfs made this more of a grind and the Capstone dungeon that I have done before at 60 is no longer possible with my build I used both in season and out of season.
Now the game is just a grind and I think I have had my fill. Just spent a few hours with the 25% experience buff and I still felt like I was slogging through a slow grind.
It’s been said by a few people that they want it to be a grind to hit max level since there is no endgame, and I am starting to think this is the case. For now, I think I am done with this title. It’s just not fun to grind and grind with no results in a game.
